How long are the internship placements?
Four weeks to six months. For placements up to eight weeks duration, there is less flexibility in terms of sector and work type.

Do you guarantee that I will be placed in my chosen sector?
No. Although we work with a large number of host organisations, we cannot guarantee that they will accept an individual at a specific time. This is because the organisation must provide workspace, management time and other resources to facilitate interns, and this may not always suit them at specific times.

We ask prospective interns to provide three sector choices so that, if we cannot secure a placement in your first choice, we have other options that are also of interest.

What kind of work will I be doing?
Glad you asked! An internship is an opportunity to gain real-life experience in a relevant sector, observe and participate in the operation of an organisation and gain a realistic understanding of working life.

While you will be practicing your professional skills, all internships will also entail administrative tasks or routine work, as this is beneficial to the host organisation. While your experience will not be like “The Devil Wears Prada”, an open-minded and positive attitude to the position really will bring its rewards.

However, some of the interns on our programmes have done some pretty cool stuff – check out the testimonials section or visit our blog: internshipsinireland.blogspot.com.

Will I get paid?
Generally no. An internship gives you valuable experience in a real-world working environment, with an opportunity to develop professional, interpersonal and linguistic skills, in return for your contribution to the success of the host organisation.

We do have a limited number of paid placements in the hotel and hospitality industry, which are generally for a minimum of six months.

Why should I do an internship in Ireland?
For cultural, linguistic, professional and personal development. Participants in our programmes point to a range of benefits they have enjoyed from doing a work placement in Ireland, including gaining a realistic appreciation of working in a particular sector, awareness of business etiquette and understanding how organisations work.

Participants also enjoyed the opportunity to apply what they had learned, test their interests, develop new strengths and understanding, and learn of opportunities and career paths.

What is the currency in Ireland?
The Euro is the currency in Ireland, as well as in 14 other countries in the EU. In Northern Ireland the currency is the British pound sterling.

Do I need a visa to do an internship in Ireland?

Maybe. Citizens of the United States, the EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand do not need a visa to enter Ireland and take part in internship programs up to twelve weeks in length.

Those interested in programmes longer than twelve weeks and up to six months must be from an EU country or be eligible for a working holiday visa. If you are not from any of these countries and are interested in the Ireland internship program, you must apply for a visa.

Always check the visa requirements for your country of origin before booking an international internship. Visit the visa section of the website of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs for more information.

How much do Irish Education Partners internship programmes cost?

As you cannot organise your internship directly with us, you must contact one of our trusted partner organisations in your home country, who will also provide cost information.

Generally, the cost of your programme will depend on the services included, for example accommodation, airport transfer, classes, and so on. As we work exclusively with our partners in your home country, the fees are set by our partners.
